WOMPOL – Women’s Participation in Politics
WOMPOL is a multi-year project that promotes inclusive democratic participation by strengthening the role of women and youth in political and civic life in Somaliland.
Despite making up a large portion of the population, women and young people remain underrepresented in political leadership and decision-making. WOMPOL works to address this gap by increasing knowledge, building leadership capacity, and creating opportunities for dialogue.
The project combines training, policy dialogue, and public engagement to support peaceful and inclusive political participation.
Objectives
The project has three main objectives.
Strengthening Democratic Awareness
Increase understanding of democratic values, political processes, and civic rights among women and youth.
Building Leadership Capacity
Provide training programs that equip participants with leadership skills, advocacy tools, and confidence to engage in political and civic processes.
Promoting Inclusive Political Participation
Encourage political parties and institutions to create space for women and youth within party structures and decision-making.
